St. Vincent Seminary is a non-profit, Catholic, residential facility for Vincentian priests and brothers, located in Philadelphia. As a Vincentian Community, we are committed to following the teachings of St. Vincent DePaul which emphasizes respect for the individual, service to those who are poor, human solidarity and seeing Christ in those we serve.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing Services who can support this mission. Their overall responsibilities would include planning, development and general supervision of an integrated model of care (medical, psychological, social and spiritual). This model of care is flexible and personalized for each resident of St. Vincent's Seminary and, when requested, for other members of the Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission. St. Vincent's has a total capacity of 62 beds, which includes independent, assisted and nursing levels of care. Applicants should have a personal commitment to holistic and individualized resident-centered care and an ability to integrate information technology systems into the care of residents.

Additional responsibilities would also include: providing a creative, best practices approach to care for residents; ensuring compliance with policies and procedures; supporting the social component of resident care; supervising and overseeing a staff of approximately 20 full and part time professionals; etc.

This is a full-time salaried position with excellent benefits and reports to the religious Superior of St. Vincent's Seminary. The successful candidate will have strong management, organizational, nursing and communication skills and have the ability to work flexible hours to accommodate residents and staff. A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or equivalent experience is required with a minimum of five years' experience in clinical, long-term care preferably as a Long-term Care Administrator (NHA). Candidates with a Master's Degree in Nursing will be given preference.

Where are the Level 5 Leaders?

Having just finished teaching a class on governance where we talk about the should haves and the ought tos, as well as the realities, the one that has grabbed my attention this round is the paucity of quality leaders—at both the paid and volunteer levels.  In so many ways, leaders are, for the most part, at best average, and at worst well below. Perhaps the most basic of the deficiencies is the failure to understand their jobs.  It doesn’t take long working in a nonprofit to understand that too often the board members do not understand their individual responsibilities or.
