JoB Description

Inn Dwelling is a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1981 in Germantown to help people become self-sufficient. Beginning in 1997, Inn Dwelling created the Comprehensive Youth Initiative and began transforming the lives of at-risk youth, ages eleven to eighteen, through education. Approximately one hundred and fifty students from areas throughout the city have completed are program and are attending/have graduated from competitive high schools and selective colleges including University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Haverford, Gettysburg, Villanova, and Harvard because of Inn Dwelling's program. Inn Dwelling's ultimate goal is to provide opportunities that enable students to obtain meaningful employment that moves them well beyond the ambit of poverty and its effects. This is transformative education at work in the city.

We are looking to hire an Associate Developement Director.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Grant Management
    • Research new sources of funding
    • Complete all grant funding requests and reporting
    • Coordinate site visits as needed
    • Maintain database of grant funding and prospects
  • Fundraising
    • Work closely with Executive Director and key organization members to achieve and drive the annual and long term development objectives of the organization
    • Maintain mailing list and email list of all supporters
    • Develop and maintain relationships with major donors
    • Create all print and email fundraising campaigns
    • Record all donations and track campaign effectiveness
  • Event Coordination
    • Annual silent auction fundraiser
      • Lead volunteer committee
      • Obtain donations
      • Coordinate with venue, caterer, and vendors
      • Prepare all materials including invitations and event book
    • Coordinate additional fundraising events throughout the year i.e. Beer and Wine Tasting, 1 day giving challenge, March Madness 50/50, Pub Crawl
  • Marketing/Digital Media
    • Create all print marketing materials
    • Manage website content
    • Manage social media content (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Board of Directors and Development Committee
    • Attend quarterly meetings and report on development initiatives
       

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years professional fundraising experience
  • Experience managing Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Experience managing a website, familiarity with the FireSpring platform is a plus
  • Photoshop experience is a plus
  • Understanding of and passion for Inn Dwelling's mission
  • Strong event planning skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written communications, research, and organizational skills
  • Must be comfortable interfacing with donors, visitors, board members to articulate and effectively communicate the mission, vision and accomplishments of the organization

Where are the Level 5 Leaders?

Having just finished teaching a class on governance where we talk about the should haves and the ought tos, as well as the realities, the one that has grabbed my attention this round is the paucity of quality leaders—at both the paid and volunteer levels.  In so many ways, leaders are, for the most part, at best average, and at worst well below.
