JoB Description

Under the supervision of the Controller, Accountant is responsible for the full cycle of accounting duties for the Philadelphia Senior Center (PSC), an affiliated organization of NewCourtland Elder Services. PSC is a non-profit with approximately $2.9M in revenue and a staff of approximately 45 employees. Tasks of the position are: Bank reconciliation, A/P processing (Great Plains), A/R Billing, revenue recording, general ledger maintenance (balance sheet and statement of activities), prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, grant billing (Federal and City), G/L posting of payroll register, prepare along with operating staff annual budget, prepare and file annual FORM 990, assist external auditors in preparing certified financial report under A-133 guidelines. Future growth potential would be available within the NewCourtland Elder Services accounting department team.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university

Work Experience:

  • Three years professional accounting experience

Advocates for Social Justice

I have been having a lot of conversation with my masters students about the role nonprofits might play in the fight for social justice.  Obviously, there are nonprofits whose explicit mission is all about social justice, working on behalf of a group being denied that essential American promise of the ability to pursue life, liberty and happiness, and all that entails.  For those nonprofits, there is no question, but only up to a point:  the point at which the current fight doesn’t fit within the parameters of their mission.  Then they are in the same boat as the vast majority.
